The solar panel’s power generation could be different based on various circumstances. What does a power inverter do? The inverter is also known as the AC driver or Variable frequency drive.
This equates to the ratio of the DC power in the solar system to the AC power output from the inverter. For most solar systems, this ratio is going to be greater than 1, but less than 1.25. So for a 100W solar panel, the size of the inverter in this system should be greater than 100W and less than 125W. 2. Why is the size of the inverter important?
Your inverter draws power from your battery to run AC appliances. When a solar panel charges a battery, around 15% of the energy may be lost. Thus, if the solar panel is 85% efficient the battery will receive 600 x 0.85 = 510 watts. Let us suppose you have a 12V battery and it is 50% charged.
The number of solar panels you can connect to inverter depends on its capacity. If the inverter is 200W, you can only use 2 x 100W solar panels maximum. If you want the inverter to have reserve power – and you should – you can only use one 100W solar panel. This is why planning is important.
