The Allan Labor Government has given the green light to a $453 million battery energy storage system in North-East Victoria, backed by Chinese renewable energy giant Trina Solar. The 500-megawatt Kiewa Valley project, located near Dederang Terminal Station, will be capable of powering up to 172,000 homes annually.
The Victoria Labor government says it has fast-tracked approval of a new big battery project that will be sited next to two of the state’s most recently commissioned wind farms.
The construction phase is expected to create about 246 jobs, including 20 positions for apprentices, trainees, and cadets. The project will connect to Victoria’s electricity grid later this year and feature a 600MW big battery near Melton, which can store enough renewable energy to power 200,000 homes during peak times.
