In May 2024, Southern Grid commissioned a 10 MWh sodium-ion battery energy storage station in Nanning, Guangxi province, the first large-scale sodium-ion battery energy storage station in China. The energy storage station can store 100,000 kWh of electricity on a single charge, which can meet the needs of around 12,000 households for a day.
Designed with a capacity of 605,000 kilowatts, the project is the largest single energy storage power station under construction in the country. The energy storage station can help send a stable supply of electricity from photovoltaic power facilities to the grid.
This marks the completion and operation of the largest grid-forming energy storage station in China. The photo shows the energy storage station supporting the Ningdong Composite Photovoltaic Base Project. This energy storage station is one of the first batch of projects supporting the 100 GW large-scale wind and photovoltaic bases nationwide.
On March 31, the second phase of the 100 MW/200 MWh energy storage station, a supporting project of the Ningxia Power’s East NingxiaComposite Photovoltaic Base Project under CHN Energy, was successfully connected to the grid.
