Standing over 120 meters high, the EVx building is a massive mechanical tower for lifting giant blocks weighing 24 tons during surplus energy.

Early forms of gravity-based storage have existed for over a century as pumped hydroelectric systems pump water uphill when energy is cheap or abundant and then release it downhill through turbines when electricity demand peaks.
The 25 MW/100 MWh EVx™ Gravity Energy Storage System (GESS) is a 4-hour duration project being built outside of Shanghai in Rudong, Jiangsu Province, China. The EVx™ is under construction directly adjacent to a wind farm and national grid.
This system boasts a peak output of 25 MW and a total capacity of 100 MWh, with an impressive round-trip efficiency of over 80%.
