From ESS News Shell (Shanghai) and Chongqing-based QingAn Energy Storage (QAES) have announced a strategic partnership to introduce immersion-cooling technology – a method long used in high-performance data centers – to the world of grid-scale and commercial battery storage.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are revolutionizing our power grids, dramatically enhancing resilience, and facilitating greater integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
Additionally, EticaAG’s immersion cooling system (Figure 1) is integrated with the Battery Management System (BMS). If the BMS detects any rise in temperature beyond normal operating thresholds, it automatically activates a proprietary circulation system.
Its operation marks a successful application of immersion cooling technology in new-type energy storage projects and is expected to contribute to China''s energy security and stabilization and its green and low-carbon development. Developed by China Southern Power Grid (CSG), the plant has a capacity of 70 megawatts/140 megawatt-hours.
