220V AC socket in the Prado 150 - how useful is it? It''s a 220V AC socket that is rated for 100W.. and it seems like its not particularly useful. Supply obviously comes from the vehicles single battery, and it only gets power when the vehicle is running.
Most gear like tire air compressors or camping fridges run on 12V in any rate, yet there is no 12V DC socket in the back of this Prado that I can find. Also a 12V socket would have been better as I suppose their are less losses than converting the 12V to 220V.
The power supply for the fridge when running on 240V would only be about 75% efficient therefore it would be taking about 3.75A form the inverter. The inverter is again proberly about 75% efficient so the inverter would be pulling around 4.7A from the battery when it''s running. Not very efficent!
If 100watts/220v = 0.45Amps, then the power cable from the inverter to battery has to rated to draw 100watts of 12V which is 8.3Amps, most cars have a 10Amp 12V 120watt plug, which while the engine is running should supply enough current to power the fridge, if the inverter is running off a dual battery this would *almost* be enough to do it.
