As the proportion of renewable energy infiltrating the power grid increases, suppressing its randomness and volatility, reducing its impact on the safe operation of the power grid, and improving the level of new energy consumption are increasingly important. For these purposes, energy storage stations (ESS) are receiving increasing attention.
In the quest for a resilient and efficient power grid, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have emerged as a transformative solution. This technical article explores the diverse applications of BESS within the grid, highlighting the critical technical considerations that enable these systems to enhance overall grid performance and reliability.
In 2022, 194 electrochemical storage stations were put into operation, with a total stored energy of 7.9GWh. These accounted for 60.2% of the total energy stored by stations in operation, a year-on-year increase of 176% (Figure 4).
As a consequence, to guarantee a safe and stable energy supply, faster and larger energy availability in the system is needed.
