This research focuses on developing an intelligent irrigation solution for agricultural systems utilising solar photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) energy applications. This solution integrates PVT applications, prediction, modelling and forecasting as well as plants’ physiological characteristics.
Field trials demonstrated a 30 % reduction in water usage compared to traditional irrigation methods, while maintaining optimal soil moisture levels. Additionally, the system significantly reduced labor and energy costs, contributing to operational efficiency.

By addressing water scarcity and promoting sustainable resource utilization, this smart system has the potential to improve crop yields, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and advance ecological farming practices.
The smart irrigation system came with key aims such as maintaining the optimal moisture levels of soil while at the same time minimizing the usage of water and preserving the state of the crop. The above objectives were all achieved by the system due to the real time monitoring and controlling of the system.
