To ensure the sustainability of solar energy projects, conducting environmental impact assessments is crucial. These assessments involve a comprehensive process of identifying and analyzing potential environmental impacts, ranging from land use to water usage and wildlife impacts.
The existing literature on solar energy and PV technology in Bhutan and Nepal debates solar photovoltaic power systems’ efficiency and economic feasibility. Miskat and Rashedi (2021) conducted a study to determine the exergy efficiency and enviro-economic analysis of solar photovoltaic power in 12 cities in Nepal.
For South Asian countries, the dimensions of solar cell waste management must be addressed crucially. Closed loop management or using less toxic materials are the two possible solutions. Solar cell waste is hazardous e-waste that must be managed at EoL to avoid negative environmental and economic consequences.
EPRs or regulations can be devised in each South Asian country according to their capacity and ability. Most primarily, there is a crucial need to fulfill the legislative gaps. Proper policy-making must be done; PV e-waste should be integrated into the existing legislation with special emphasis on solar cell waste.
