NamPower has completed the construction of the N$1.28 billion Anixas II Power Station, a 54 megawatts (MW) facility aimed at strengthening Namibia’s electricity supply. The inauguration of the Anixas II Power Station is scheduled for 21 February in Walvis Bay.
NamPower currently owns and operates Anixas I along with two other power stations, contributing to a combined installed capacity of 459.5MW. Namibia’s national power utility, NamPower, has completed the construction of the 54-megawatt (MW) Anixas II Power Station, a project valued at N$1.28 billion.
NamPower stated that the new facility aims to provide reliable and dispatchable electricity to the national grid, supporting the country’s energy needs and improving security of supply. The station is also expected to assist in managing the variability of renewable energy sources by providing backup generation when needed.
NamPower began construction of the station in Walvis Bay after signing an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with FK Namibia joint venture (JV) in March 2022.
