Because the reflectivity of soda lime glass increases from 15 to 21 ~tm (see fig. 1), a spectral average performed over the entire far-infrared spectrum available with modern spectrophotometers will yield a lower total emissivity than an average that extends only to 15 ~tm.
Soda-lime glass is inexpensive, chemically stable, reasonably hard, and extremely workable, because it is capable of being resoftened a number of times if necessary to finish an article. These qualities make it suitable for manufacturing a wide array of glass products, including light bulbs, windowpanes, bottles, and art objects.
The dielectric constant of Coming 0080 soda lime glass is 6.75 at 100 MHz , corresponding to n = 2.60. The values of k calculated from ref. indicate that absorption is barely strong enough at 200 ~m to affect p, and that this effect decreases rapidly with increasing wavelength.
